The bedside lighting guide
Battery bedside wall lights.
A battery bedside wall light saves table space and runs without a mains connection beside the bed. Compare two models by size, controls, runtime and charging.
Compare the designs
01 / BEDSIDE POSITION
Check the position while sitting in bed.
Sit against your usual pillows. Mark a position where the light will not shine directly into your eyes and you can reach the controls. Check clearance around the headboard and bedside table.
Mark the dimensions with paper before choosing a position. Belgravia has an 18 cm lamp and an approximately 8.9 cm plate. Norwood is 7.5 cm in diameter and 4.5 cm high. These measurements do not establish the full assembled projection.
For a narrow bedside
Measure the full wall plate. Leave enough room to reach the controls and remove the lamp for charging.
For a rotating lamp
Leave room to turn Norwood towards the area you want to light, clear of the headboard and pillows.
Before fixing anything, test the proposed position both sitting up and lying down. Open nearby drawers and wardrobes, and check the reach to every control.
02 / COMPARE BEDSIDE LIGHTS
Compare two bedside wall lights.
Belgravia has a slim wood-and-acrylic lamp. Norwood has a compact rotating body. Both detach for charging. Open each product for the full specifications.

The practical comparison
A bedside size and clearance reference.
Use these dimensions with your own headboard and bedside table. Projection is the distance out from the wall; a lamp’s height or diameter should not be substituted for it.

| Design & current price | Listed size | Wall clearance to plan | Controls & recharge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Belgravia Magnetic£73.99 | 18 cm lamp height; 2.5 cm lamp diameter; approximately 8.9 cm wall plate. | Full assembled projection is not listed. Leave room to grasp and lift the lamp. | Tap on/off, double tap for light colour, long press to dim. USB-C; approximately 2–3 h charge. |
| Norwood£80.99 | 7.5 cm diameter × 4.5 cm high. | Separate wall projection is not listed. Check the rotating lamp’s movement. | Touch control; three light colours and three brightness levels. USB; approximately 3–4 h charge. |

Make a paper outline, hold a ruler out for the confirmed projection and check the position sitting up and lying down. Keep the route to controls and removable parts clear.

03 / EVERYDAY USE
Check controls, battery life and charging.
Check that you can switch, adjust and remove the lamp without leaning out of bed.
Keep the control within reach.
Belgravia uses tap, double tap and long-press controls. Norwood offers touch control with three colour temperatures and three brightness levels. Check that you can operate your chosen fitting without leaning out of bed.
Compare battery life.
Belgravia lists approximately 4–24 hours depending on brightness, including about 4 hours at full brightness, with a 2–3 hour charge. Norwood lists approximately 5–20 hours depending on use and a 3–4 hour charge.
Leave access for charging.
Leave enough space to detach and recharge the lamp. Check the wall-fixing method separately; a magnetic lamp can still have a screw-fixed base.
For reading, check the stated light output and direction as well as dimming and colour settings.

Bedside wall-light questions
How high should battery bedside wall lights be?
There is no single height that works with every bed. Mark the position while sitting on your own mattress, using your usual pillows. Check glare, control reach, headboard clearance and the path needed to remove or recharge the light before fixing it.
Can I use two different bedside lights?
Yes. Choose each side for the person using it, then compare the visual height, finish and light colour. A shaded arm on one side and a compact fitting on the other can suit different space constraints. Matching pairs offer a more symmetrical arrangement.
Are battery wall lights suitable for a rental bedroom?
They avoid a mains connection at the fitting, but the mounting plate may still need screws or adhesive. Confirm the permitted fixing method and wall finish first. A freestanding cordless table lamp is another option where wall fixing is unsuitable.
What should I check before choosing bedside wall lights?
Check the power source, mounting method, wall projection and control position on the individual product page. Use the comparison above to choose a fitting that suits your bed and available space.
